Paira Brings Double Dating to Detroit

Detroit-based dating app Paira is taking a different approach to online dating by bringing friends along on first dates. The app connects singles for double dates, aiming to make meeting someone new more comfortable and social. Paira is currently available on iPhone in Detroit and the surrounding metro area, with an Android version planned.

Users create individual profiles and match with people they are interested in. They can then bring a friend, or “wingmate”, into the process. When both pairs are compatible, Paira creates a group chat for all four participants to arrange a double date. Having a friend present is intended to make first dates less intimidating.

Paira also partners with local restaurants and venues to offer users discounts and rewards when they go on dates. The app organises double-dating events, including its Two’s-Day dinners and Wingmate Socials. The aim is to encourage more face-to-face meetings rather than lengthy conversations on dating apps.

Paira’s founders are originally from Farmington Hills, a suburb of Detroit. They chose to launch locally because of their existing connections and the city’s supportive business community. Their goal is to encourage people to socialise more, particularly during the week, and make dating feel less like a job interview.

Founded in 2025, Paira Technologies plans to expand into other Midwest cities based on demand. The app is free to join, with optional paid subscriptions offering additional benefits.
