LinkedIn Cracks Down on Overuse of AI-Generated Content
LinkedIn is introducing new measures to limit the reach of low-quality AI-generated content while continuing to expand its own artificial intelligence tools. The update, shared by LinkedIn Global Editorial VP Laura Lorenzetti, targets the growing problem of “AI slop” on the professional network.
The changes include:
- Reduced visibility for posts that appear to be heavily AI-generated and lack original perspective.
- Stronger detection and reach limitations on automated or AI-written comments.
- New filters that allow users to view content only from verified profiles.
Lorenzetti stated that while AI can help with drafting, content should ultimately represent the user’s own voice and experience. Excessive use of AI, particularly at scale, she said, dilutes the value of genuine professional conversation and human insight.
The policy reflects a growing tension across social platforms. LinkedIn has actively integrated AI features throughout the app, including tools for profile writing, post generation, job applications, and candidate evaluation. Features such as “Rewrite with AI” in the composer explicitly encourage users to leverage the technology for content creation.
This creates a contradictory position. The platform promotes AI as a productivity tool while simultaneously trying to restrict overuse that results in generic or low-effort posts. Industry observers note that this mixed messaging is becoming common as major platforms invest heavily in AI while struggling to maintain content quality.
LinkedIn’s user base has grown significantly in recent years, reaching professionals who value authentic networking and thought leadership. The new restrictions aim to protect that environment from being overwhelmed by automated content. However, enforcement may prove challenging, especially as users become more reliant on AI assistance for efficiency.
