Tinder Begins Live Event Push With Pickleball Meetup

Tinder is increasingly focusing on offline experiences to address user fatigue among Gen Z daters. The company has been hosting live events in the Los Angeles area since March, with a recent pickleball gathering near Santa Monica State Beach reaching full capacity. Participants paired up for games, while others socialized on the sidelines with drinks and casual conversation.

The pickleball event is one of several activities Tinder has organized, including art classes, silent discos, and dog-friendly happy hours. Attendees, many in their 20s, noted that shared activities made it easier to meet people compared to traditional app interactions. Some participants were not even active Tinder users but joined through friends.

The events form part of a larger effort led by CEO Spencer Rascoff, who took over Tinder and parent company Match Group in 2025. Rascoff aims to reposition Tinder beyond its hookup reputation by encouraging real-world momentum. The company is also developing a “Groups” feature that lets users form friend groups for larger social hangouts, reducing pressure around one-on-one dates.

Additional initiatives include AI-powered tools such as Chemistry matching, Astrology and Music Modes, and virtual speed dating for verified users. A full app redesign with improved profiles and prompts is also underway. Rascoff has emphasized keeping the core swipe mechanic while adding new ways to connect.
