Threads Introduces Parental Supervision Tools for Teen Users

Meta is rolling out parental supervision features for Threads, allowing parents and guardians to monitor and manage their teen’s activity on the platform.

The new tools are accessible through Meta’s Family Center. Parents can view their teen’s daily time spent on Threads over the past week, set daily time limits, enable sleep mode to mute notifications and activate auto-replies during nighttime hours (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.), and control privacy settings including who can tag their teen in posts.

Time limits apply across devices, meaning usage on a phone and laptop counts toward the same daily cap. Parents can also decide whether teens under 16 can adjust built-in protections such as private accounts or content filters to be less restrictive.

The rollout begins next week in the United States and is expected to expand globally by the end of 2026. Threads, which launched in July 2023, has grown to 500 million monthly users.

This development comes amid increased regulatory and legal pressure on social media companies regarding child safety and screen time. Meta has faced multiple lawsuits related to its platforms’ impact on young users. The company has gradually expanded parental controls across Facebook, Instagram, and now Threads in response to these concerns.

Meta has stated that teens on Threads already have default protections, including private accounts and limits on certain content. The new parental tools provide additional oversight and customization options for families.
