Match Group to Appeal €11 Million GDPR Fine Against Tinder

Match Group plans to appeal an €11 million fine Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) imposed on Tinder for breaches of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The investigation, launched in February 2020, examined how Tinder handles requests to access and delete personal data and how long it retains user information. The regulator issued its final decision on 13 October 2026.

In its latest SEC filing, Match Group said the disputed policies were largely designed to protect user safety and privacy. The company believes it has strong grounds for an appeal and has recorded a $12.6 million provision relating to the Tinder GDPR fine.

The decision follows several years of regulatory proceedings, including preliminary findings issued in January 2024 and a further draft decision in July 2026. Global Dating Insights previously reported on the proposed penalty in August, when the DPC was considering a fine of between €8 million and €11 million.
