Coffee Meets Bagel Unveils Major Dating Tool and Safety Update

Coffee Meets Bagel has released its most significant platform overhaul to date, introducing features designed to address user fatigue and improve the quality of online dating experiences.

The update, known as CMB 2.0, shifts emphasis from increasing match volume to supporting more thoughtful interactions and real-world meetings. Since the initial rollout in June 2026, the app has seen a 30% increase in messages sent alongside likes and a 21% rise in average profile viewing time, suggesting users are engaging more deliberately with profiles.

Central to the update is a set of tools aimed at helping users communicate more effectively. A new “Headlines” prompt allows users to share current events or thoughts from their lives, providing potential matches with timely conversation starters. The app also offers AI-powered conversation suggestions based on profile content. These prompts are intended to inspire users rather than replace their own writing, with most reportedly using them as starting points.

Another key addition is the “Real Dates” feature, which encourages users to move from messaging to in-person meetings. One user can propose three date options, and the other selects the most suitable time. The company hopes this will reduce prolonged chatting without progression to actual dates.

Safety measures have also been strengthened. CMB claims to be the first dating app in Singapore to integrate Singpass verification, allowing users to confirm their identity through the national digital system. Combined with selfie verification—adopted by 81% of users within three months—the platform aims to reduce catfishing and fake profiles. AI systems are used to detect suspicious accounts and inappropriate messages, with approximately 80% of bad actors reportedly removed before interaction.

Shn Juay, CEO of Coffee Meets Bagel Worldwide, stated that the update was guided by the question of how to help people become better at dating rather than simply spending more time on the app. The company believes successful relationships often involve good communication and openness rather than rigid checklists.
