Match Group Appoints Former X Executive as New CLO

Match Group, the company behind popular dating platforms like Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, has hired Sean Edgett as its new Chief Legal Officer (CLO). Edgett, formerly CLO at Upside Foods and General Counsel at Twitter (now X), will step into the role on September 23. He replaces Jared Sine, who left the company earlier this year — and the interim CLO, Elizabeth Monteleone.

Edgett’s extensive legal background – including expertise in regulatory affairs, corporate governance, and intellectual property – will be crucial as Match Group enters a year of legal uncertainty. Between stronger dating site regulations in some countries and the rise of AI tools being used as a dating assistant, this experience could be invaluable.

His previous experience at Twitter, particularly in managing legal challenges in the tech space, positions him well to support Match Group’s ongoing efforts in global expansion and innovation. Given that Match Group has a number of distinctly different dating and social platforms under its belt, a solid legal and regulatory approach could be even more important than ever before.

When asked about the new position, Edgett stated that “Match Group’s mission of connecting people globally through innovative technology is inspiring”, and that he looks forward to “collaborating with the talented team to navigate the evolving legal landscape and help drive the next chapter of growth”. Given the many recent upsets and sudden shifts in the dating industry, that could mean a lot of uncertainties to navigate around in the long-term.
