Match Group Beats Q1 Estimates, Hinge and Tinder Grow

Match Group has reported first-quarter revenue of $864 million, exceeding analyst estimates of $854.9 million, according to results released on May 5th. The company, which owns Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish, saw shares rise about 3% in extended trading following the announcement.

Growth was primarily driven by continued strong performance at Hinge and early positive signs at Tinder, where the company has been implementing changes to address user fatigue. Match Group is placing a significant emphasis on AI-powered features designed to improve match quality and reduce the burnout associated with endless swiping.

Chief Financial Officer Steven Bailey noted the company is making a major push toward becoming an “AI-native” organization. AI tools are already delivering internal efficiency gains, leading Match to slow hiring plans for the remainder of the year as it reallocates resources.

Tinder has introduced new features, including astrology and music integrations, which contributed to a 1% increase in registrations — the first growth after several years of decline. However, the company faces headwinds in the second quarter, including product testing on Tinder and disruptions at its Azar app in Asia, expected to create a combined $30 million impact.

Match Group guided for Q2 revenue between $850 million and $860 million, with the midpoint falling slightly below analyst expectations. Overall paying users declined 5% year-over-year to 13.5 million. In contrast, Hinge’s paying users grew 15% to 2 million, highlighting its stronger momentum within the portfolio.

While the results suggest Match Group is making progress on its turnaround efforts, particularly through AI and product innovation, analysts will be watching closely to see whether these changes can deliver sustained growth in a difficult market.
