Matrimony.com Obtains Interim Injunction in Domains Case
Matrimony.com Limited has been granted an interim injunction from the Madras High Court against competitor Kalyan Matrimony. The case concerns an infringement of Matrimony.com’s trademarks.

Domains being used by other third parties were also impacted by the ruling. These included Bharatmatrimony.org, reddytelugumatrimony.com, telugumatrimony.org, vanjaritelugumatrimony.com and lltelugumatrimony.com. Further, the mobile app Bharatcommunitymatrimony was implicated.
S. Ravichandran, GM (Legal & Regulatory) at Matrimony.com, said: “We are pursuing legal action against those who deceptively use names similar to our trademarks and attempt to ride the goodwill and the reputation of our long-standing brands, on which we have invested heavily over the past two decades.”
A spokesperson for Kalyan Matrimony commented: “We are in receipt of the pleadings filed by Matrimony.com before the Madras High Court claiming relief against Kalyan Matrimony.com. At the onset, the contention of infringement is vehemently denied.
“Matrimony.com had earlier sent a legal notice alleging infringement which was replied to in detail, setting forth the correct facts. It appears that in spite thereof Matrimony.com have chosen to file the present proceedings and take an interim injunction. The same shall be defended by Kalyan Matrimony in accordance with law.”
