Meta Edits App Adds Bilingual Captions and New Video Tools
Meta has added several new features to its Edits video editing app, including automatic bilingual captions designed to help creators reach broader audiences.
The latest update, announced on July 5, 2026, introduces auto-generated bilingual captions supporting text in 15 languages. This feature allows content created in one language to include translated captions, potentially increasing visibility for international viewers. It aligns with Instagram’s efforts to promote translated posts more widely in Explore feeds.
Additional updates include new seasonal sound effects intended to add thematic elements, such as “summer energy,” to video clips. Meta has also expanded creative template tools, adding better support for overlays and a clip-locking function. The lock feature keeps selected clips in place when users reuse or build upon templates, which may facilitate trend participation and content remixing.
Edits, which is closely integrated with Instagram, continues to receive frequent updates. The app focuses on simplifying short-form video creation and editing for users.
These changes reflect ongoing development in social media video tools as platforms compete for creator attention and user engagement. Bilingual captioning, in particular, addresses growing demand for cross-language accessibility in global content distribution – and is a very good feature to include if Meta wants to push users to choose Edits as their main Instagram editing tool, which seems to be the current goal.
