Meta Quietly Launches Reddit-Like App Forum
Meta has released a new standalone app called Forum, designed as a dedicated space for deeper, community-focused discussions. The app, which functions similarly to Reddit, centers on conversations within Facebook Groups. Users sign in with their Facebook account, and their existing groups, profiles, and activity carry over. Posts made in Forum also appear in the corresponding Facebook Groups.
Forum organizes feeds around group discussions rather than trending content, allowing users to pick up where they left off more easily. It includes an AI-powered “Ask” tab that compiles answers from discussions across multiple groups. Group administrators also get access to an AI assistant for moderation and management tasks.
This marks Meta’s second recent standalone app launch, following Instants, a disappearing photo-sharing tool. According to reports, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has encouraged the development of more apps, citing AI efficiencies that allow the company to build products faster than before. Forum revives an idea Meta tried in 2014 with a dedicated Groups app, which was discontinued in 2017.
The app appears aimed at users seeking more structured, topic-based conversations, positioning it as a potential competitor to Reddit. It allows posting with nicknames and emphasizes “real people” discussions over algorithmic trends. However, it remains closely tied to Facebook’s ecosystem, with content flowing between the two platforms.
