Meta Rolls Out FIFA World Cup 2026 Features Across Its Apps
Meta has announced a series of features across its platforms to support user engagement during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The updates include themed content, live tools, and interactive elements on Threads, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
On Threads, users will have access to live score alerts, a dedicated World Cup community, live commentary sessions with soccer figures, and custom stickers and emojis. Profiles can feature team flair, and the app will highlight key discussions and game reminders.
Instagram is introducing an enhanced search hub for tournament content, surfacing curated Reels, Stories, and accounts from broadcasters and national teams alongside fan content. Users will also have AI-powered voice effects in DMs.
Facebook is adding a Football Mode accessible by double-tapping the app logo, along with AI-generated images of users in team jerseys, tournament-themed stickers, and backgrounds.
Messenger will offer Live Updates in group chats, delivering real-time match news, goals, and highlights without spoilers. It also includes new chat themes and animated stickers. WhatsApp previously announced its own World Cup tools, including themed stickers, calling effects, and a dedicated channel directory.
The World Cup is expected to generate significant conversation across social and messaging platforms. Meta’s features aim to facilitate real-time interaction and fan participation. As soccer is one of the most popular global sports, these tools could drive engagement during the tournament period.
