Ofcom at GDI: The Online Safety Act, Decoded – Submit Your Questions

Next week at the GDI Conference, we’re exploring what the UK Online Safety Act actually means for product, policy and growth – especially for dating and social apps with UK users with one of Ofcom’s most Senior Executives and we’re asking for guests to submit questions in advance.

The Act makes online services legally responsible for keeping adults safe, with Ofcom empowered to set guidance, assess compliance and, when needed, enforce – up to £18m or 10% of qualifying worldwide revenue in fines for serious breaches.

To unpack it all, join a fireside chat with Simon Corbett (Founder, Global Dating Insights Group) and Héloïse Martorell (Senior Associate, Ofcom). Expect a plain-English download on duties, timelines and practical steps – risk assessments, user-safety systems, transparency, and how to operationalise Ofcom’s codes without breaking your roadmap. Bring questions; leave with an action list.

Who is Ofcom – and why they matter here?

Ofcom is the UK’s independent communications regulator. Historically they oversee TV, radio and on-demand services, telecoms, post and radio spectrum. Under the Online Safety Act, they’re also the online safety regulator, issuing guidance and codes of practice and making sure platforms have effective systems to protect users from harm. Translation: they’re the referee and they keep the rulebook.

Shape the conversation

We’re curating live audience questions for the stage. Submit your questions now to (pa@iigroup.global) for the fireside chat – whether it’s about adult-safety duties, enforcement risk, age assurance, or how product, policy and trust & safety teams should coordinate to stay compliant. The sharper the question, the more useful the answer (yes, spicy is welcome – within policy).

See you next week at GDI. Bring your curiosity, your roadmap, and your toughest “what happens if…?” scenarios. We’ll cover the must-knows – and the gotchas – so you can ship confidently in the UK. GOV.UK
