QuackQuack Survey: Many Daters Reconnect with Ex-Matches

A new survey from Indian dating app QuackQuack reveals that many online daters aren’t as quick to cut ties as commonly believed. According to data gathered from 7,685 participants across India, around 3 in 7 users eventually reach out to ex-matches, seeking either closure, forgiveness, or even a second chance at romance.

The study, timed around World Forgiveness Day, explored why users return to past matches after unmatching – what might typically be considered a digital breakup. Participants ranged from 20 to 35 years old and represented a diverse mix of professions and cities.

Interestingly, about 19% of users from Tier 1 and 2 cities admitted to reconnecting with people they previously ghosted. Many attributed their earlier actions to emotional immaturity, with most saying they were under 22 when they chose to disappear without explanation. However, these users expressed a mix of guilt and personal growth as reasons for revisiting old connections, often reaching out simply to apologize rather than rekindle a romance.

The survey also highlighted the timeline for such reconciliations. Around 41% of daters aged 25 to 35 said they typically waited six months to a year before making contact. Less than 16% of male daters reached out sooner, usually after three to five months. Respondents noted that their outreach was typically thoughtful and deliberate, not driven by late-night impulses.

Findings suggest generational differences as well. Gen Z participants were more likely to reach out purely to apologize, while millennials showed a higher tendency to hope for romantic reconnection, with 18% reporting renewed relationships.

Overall, QuackQuack’s data points to a less cynical side of online dating, where accountability and emotional growth play a role in how people navigate modern relationships.
