Student-Founded App Anchor Aims to Bring Back Real Dates
A group of University of North Carolina (UNC) students has launched a fresh take on dating apps with Anchor, designed specifically to turn digital matches into actual in-person dates rather than endless swiping. Co-founders Antony Tran and Kyle Zhang began developing the app last November after Zhang was inspired by group dinner events he experienced in China.
Anchor focuses on shared experiences. After users input basic details like age, interests, race, and sex, the app asks detailed questions about preferred date types – such as café meetups, brunch, or museum visits. It also includes personality-revealing prompts like “What do you do on a Sunday morning?” or “What song do you sing at karaoke?”
