Threads Expands Community Features With New Flair Tags

Meta’s Threads has introduced a new feature designed to help users better identify themselves within its growing network of interest-based communities. The update allows members to add flair tags to posts, making it easier for others to identify specific interests or roles within a broader discussion group.

Community flair appears beneath a user’s username when posting inside a supported community. The tags are specific to each group and are intended to represent subtopics or areas of interest. For example, someone posting in a book-focused community might select a romance-themed icon or indicate they are an author or seeking writing advice. Users can change their selected flair at any time, while subsequent posts within the same community will automatically display their chosen tag.

The feature builds on Threads’ broader investment in community-focused discussions. Meta rolled out Communities to all users in late 2025, creating dedicated spaces around topics ranging from sports and entertainment to books and hobbies. Since then, the company has steadily expanded the number of available communities while introducing additional tools to encourage participation, including Community Champion badges and custom community icons.

Flair tags were first tested with a limited number of communities in late 2025 before becoming more widely available. The latest rollout reflects Meta’s continued effort to make Threads a destination for topical conversations rather than simply another text-based social feed.
