X Makes X Money the Payout Option for U.S. Creators
X has made its X Money payments service the payout method for U.S. creators participating in its Original Content Rewards and Subscriptions programs.
The company announced on Sept. 2 that payouts for both programs would be processed through X Money, removing alternative cashout options for creators in the United States. Creators outside the U.S. who participate in Original Content Rewards will continue to receive payments through Stripe.
X said the move will allow creators to access funds as soon as payouts are sent, rather than waiting to meet a minimum withdrawal threshold. However, U.S. creators receiving payments through X Money must have a verified phone number and an X Money account. They also need to be X Premium subscribers, a requirement that already applies to participation in X’s creator monetization programs.
The change gives X Money a more direct role in the platform’s creator economy as the company continues to expand its payments infrastructure. The service launched in beta in November 2025 and has since expanded in the U.S. through an agreement with Cross River Bank.
Cross River provides the payment infrastructure for X Money accounts and its associated Visa debit card, including support for ATM withdrawals. X has faced regulatory challenges in establishing its money-transfer operations, with approvals varying by state.
For now, X Money remains limited to the U.S., meaning the payout change affects only part of X’s global creator base. The company’s decision nevertheless increases the importance of its payments system within the broader platform.
