A new survey into online dating habits has been conducted by cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab.
Kaspersky Lab is a Russian multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider headquartered in Moscow, Russia.
The survey, conducted alongside B2B International, collected the responses of 6,458 online dating users from 30 different countries in August 2017.
The questions covered topics such as respondents’ online activity, the type of devices they use, the kind of information they share, and any concerns they might have about online dating apps and services.
The report builds a picture of the average online dating user, saying they are on average 33.8 years old, 63% work full time, and are more likely to be male than female – 39% of men dating online vs 25% of women.
It also goes into security issues around online dating, such as the type of personal information online dating users share with people they meet on dating sites.
Below are some of the key findings:
- One in three people are dating online.
- 48% turn to online dating for fun, some look for more meaningful relationships and one in ten (13%) are looking for sex.
- 57% of online daters lie to each other, for example about their name, age, location and appearance.
- 63% are concerned about the device they use for online dating becoming infected and 61% are concerned about their data being stolen or leaked from the dating app or service.
- Just 27% of online daters use a security solution to protect their device and 16% do nothing at all to protect themselves as they see no risk.
