Match Group CEO Says Dating and Matrimony Are Moving Closer in India

Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff says dating apps increasingly compete with matrimonial services in India. As more users seek serious relationships, he sees the boundary between the two narrowing. Speaking to The Economic Times, he said Match needs a better understanding of Indian consumers and features suited to their needs.

Match Group’s research with Ipsos found that 72% of young singles in India prefer fewer but deeper connections. Some 67% seek a romantic relationship. Among those looking for romance, 69% want a serious relationship or marriage.

Rascoff described India as Match Group’s largest potential market for future growth. Hinge had more than one million monthly active users in the country in 2025. However, revenue remains low relative to the size of the audience. He said safer dating experiences could help more people feel comfortable using the apps and meeting someone.

Rascoff also discussed AI’s role in dating. Match uses it to moderate photos and improve profiles and recommendations. He wants recommendations to respond more closely to users’ activity on the apps. “Humans need humans now more than ever,” he said.
