Dating App Pure Named in $1 Million Lawsuit Following Alleged Assault of Minor

Dating app Pure has been named in a $1 million lawsuit filed by the family of a 13-year-old girl in Texas. The case also names former Harris County sheriff’s deputy Nicholas Burbridge and Harris County. The family alleges Burbridge posed as a teenager on Pure, met the girl through the app, and sexually assaulted her.

The lawsuit accuses Pure of failing to implement meaningful age checks, negligence, and financially benefiting from a venture that enabled trafficking. Burbridge has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Pure launched in 2013 and markets itself as a sex-positive dating app for adults. The company reported $100 million in annual gross revenue for 2025, up 46%, while registrations rose 95%. Its main markets include the US, UK and France. The app requires users to be at least 18 and promotes disappearing chats, screenshot blocking and photo verification. The lawsuit challenges how Pure enforces its minimum age of 18.
