The New York Times recently put up an entertaining profile of Grindr CEO Joel Simkhai.
Journalist Guy Trebay meets Simkhai in LA, where he lives and Grindr is based.
Israel-born Simkhai says it wasn’t until the iPod Touch that he could put his location-based discovery idea into action – recruiting a software developer in 2009 to build the app.
Although he shirks the hookup app tag, he says the Grindr experience is “very very visual experience”, but not in terms of scenery, because those kind of photos “drive me nuts”.
Simkhai also covers his entrepreneurial family, Grindr’s initial struggles with Apple, and why being an avid user of his own app is so important.
