Grouvly is a new Grouper-style social company looking to target the Asian market.
The site, which launched in January this year, is based in Hong Kong, and aims to set up two groups of three friends on a fun night out.
Users first connect via Facebook, and their profile is screened by a Grouvly team member.
Targeting the service at young professionals, Grouvly then finds you a match based on your Facebook profile, and sets up drinks for you, and two of your friends.
Once you have found a suitable match, and willing friends, you each pay for the first round of drinks at a local bar.
For this, Grouvly has partnered with over 10 venues in Singapore.
This costs HKD 150 – just under $20 – per person, or HKD 900 in total.
And the site, which was founded by CEO Camilo Paredes, has just raised $200,000 in seed funding.
Paredes explains Grouvly as “a one button solution that will put you in front of a group of three amazing people in a comfortable environment. We work with the coolest people and venues in town. No online chat or lame public profiles – we encourage our members to meet in the real world, where the magic happens.”
Paredes also founded Duriana, an quick eBay-style e-commerce app for selling your things.
The Grouvly team plan on building the site – and launching an app – in their main market of Hong Kong, before expanding into Singapore in the next month or so.
