Grindr Users Vote Hillary Clinton Their ‘Ally of the Year’
Users of Grindr have voted Hillary Clinton their “Straight Ally of the Year”.
The former Secretary of State was given the honour in the gay hookup app’s annual Best of Awards for 2014.
This year, Clinton announced her support for gay marriage after she left her post as Secretary of State.
And for the second year in a row, users of the location-based app voted Neil Patrick Harris “Gay Icon of the Year”.
Over 1,100 Grindr users from the US, UK and Australia voted in the awards between 21st November and 1st December.
At the other end of the political spectrum to the expected 2016 Presidential candidate Clinton was Vladimir Putin, who was named “Enemy of the LGBT community”.
Other winners included Ryan Seacrest, who was voted “Next Celebrity to Come Out” and Sam Smith, who despite his comments saying Tinder and Grindr were “ruining romance”, won “Best Song” for Stay With Me, and “Best Coming out Story”.
“Most Wanted Man in the Grindr Cascade” went to Zac Efron, and the “Must Have Holiday Item” for 2014 was money.
