Facebook Say Their Engineers Were Responsible For Outages

Facebook

Facebook have said that today’s outages were caused by their own engineers.

Early this morning, Facebook, Tinder and Instagram all went down for about an hour.

Hacker group Lizard Squad tweeted seemingly taking responsibility for the outage, posting the following message:

However Facebook subsequently released a statement to the media, saying they were responsible for the fault:

“Earlier this evening many people had trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100% for everyone.”

As Instagram is owned by Facebook, and apps Tinder and AIM both use the social network for logins, this fault could certainly have affected all these services.
