Andrey Andreev, CEO of Badoo, has invested £3.5 million in a new dating app targeting over-50s.
The app is free on iOS and Android. Profiles include a minimum of three photos and a detailed bio, and 100% of singles are verified via a selfie upload.
Andreev says of the investment: “Do a search of the phrase ‘over-50s dating’. The results that come up are embarrassing for the industry.
“The over-50s have been mistreated by the dating sites for years.
“I’m excited to see the Lumen team launching an app which finally listens to this audience and specifically targets their issues and needs.”
‘Lumen’ is led by CEO Antoine Argouges, former Head of Revenue at Badoo and Bumble, and CMO Charly Lester.
Argouges says: “The majority of single over-50s we know are tech-savvy, active, and looking for their next adventure. But this isn’t the reality we see reflected in the dating industry.
“Lumen finally provides a contemporary solution which over-50s can rely on to meet like-mind people [sic].”
Lumen will be Badoo’s offering in a crowded niche, competing with the likes of eharmony, Elite Singles, OurTime and Silver Singles.
Badoo will co-headline this year’s GDI London Conference on 27th September. Single Muslim, Jdate, Yoti, Spark Networks and The Meet Group will also appear on stage.
