Bumble and Chappy to Celebrate Pride in Austin

Bumble and Chappy have released a full schedule of events for Austin Pride, which runs 7-11 August 2019. The apps will help local members of LGBTQ community to connect during the celebrations.

Representatives from both social apps will be taking part in the parade on the 10th. Last year more than 400,000 were involved in the march, and officials are preparing for 2019 to be even bigger.

In the evening, Chappy will be hosting an after party at Cedar Street Courtyard, a bar known for being central to Austin’s LGBTQ scene. The party is set to feature a headline performance from Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Alyssa Edwards.

Following the main celebration, a pool party is being put on the next day to help attendees unwind. There will be complimentary merchandise and more drag performances, and Chappy users who show their profile upon entry will get complimentary drinks tokens.

Donations are going to be collected on the door to help raise money for various LGBTQ non-profit organisations.

Chappy’s Head of Brand Sam Dumas said in a statement: “The inclusion of marginalized communities is foundational for both Chappy and Bumble.

“Today more than ever, it’s important for us to help people of all genders and orientations make empowering connections in all areas of their lives. We’re looking forward to emphasizing this even more in our hometown during Austin PRIDE 2019, and we’re excited to work with amazing partners who share this same vision.”

Bumble and Chappy are both part of the MagicLab group and see most of their operations run out of Bumble’s main headquarters in Austin. There are plans to move to a bigger office space at some point in 2020.

The gay dating app underwent a major redesign in June and now markets itself as “The Space for Gay Connection”.
