Dating.com Group Targets Asian Users With Dil Mil Acquisition

Dating.com Group has acquired Dil Mil, a dating app for expat South Asians who are residing in the UK, US and Canada.

According to a statement from the new owners, the deal “values the company at up to $50 million”.

Founder and CEO KJ Dhaliwal will stay on and lead the running of Dil Mil, while also joining Dating.com Group’s M&A and Strategy committees and advisory board.

Talking about the takeover, he said: “When we started Dil Mil, our vision was to empower the world to find love. I’m glad Dil Mil can continue to realize this vision with the support of Dating.com Group.

“As the dating app market becomes more competitive with companies like Facebook entering, we wanted to partner with a strong strategic player in this space.”

Dil Mil currently has more than one million users and secured funding worth $2.7 million in 2016. The investment helped to further its desired mission of disrupting arranged marriage in Western countries.

Maria Sullivan, Dating.com Group’s Vice President, explained that the company believes South Asian markets have “great potential” and described the Dil Mil team, who will continue to run the brand, as “very talented”.

Dating.com Group was formally launched in October as part of a $215 million merger between SDVentures and SOL Holdings. It is the parent company to several dating platforms, including DateMyAge, AnastasiaDate and ChinaLove.
