eHarmony Founder Dr. Neil Clark Warren Steps Down As CEO

Dr Neil Clark Warren, eHarmony

The CEO & founder of eHarmony, Dr. Neil Clark Warren is stepping down as the company’s CEO.

Warren will be replaced as CEO by long-standing eHarmony exec and former VP of brand marketing, Grant Langston.

With this change, which the California-based company said was effective immediate, Warren will stay on as eHarmony Chairman.

Speaking about the decision to appoint Langston, Warren said he had been a “guiding influence” for the company over the past few years, and “understands this space better than anyone else in the industry.”

The 81-year-old said: “Additionally, he has an intuitive understanding of the business itself as well as the position of the unique eHarmony brand and I am confident that under his leadership, eHarmony will continue to grow market share and hold its position as an industry leader.”

It’s an important milestone for the industry, marking the departure of one of online dating’s original founders and most high-profile faces.

Since returning to the helm of eHarmony in 2012 to reinvigorate the company and reshape it for modern times, Warren has put eHarmony back on track – last year the business announced its highest period of growth, its user base increasing to 66m, and revenues totalling over $275m.

He will now return to his retirement that began in 2007, and was paused in 2012 when he rejoined the dating company.

New CEO Grant Langston said: “Dr. Warren founded eHarmony, pioneering the process of compatibility-based matching which has kept eHarmony as the leader in this space throughout its 16 years.

“Dr. Warren’s 40 years of counseling and experience as a psychologist and counselor informed a process that even today remains unique to online dating. That process has brought together literally millions of couples in pursuit of meaningful relationships and we will continue to build on the foundation and accelerate the growth of the company as we move to a mobile-first platform.”

Langston has said he will be focusing on improving eHarmony’s website and app, saying “the product hasn’t gotten the attention it needs,” and will be working alongside new chief product officer Ken Walker to help achieve the update.

Earlier this year, Dr. Neil Clark Warren was named in the GDI Power Book – our list of the most influential and powerful dating industry players of the past twelve months.
