Instagram Set to Allow its Users to Download Their Data

Instagram has announced that it will soon allow its users to download a copy of all of the content they have uploaded on to the social platform.

The announcement has come amid global concerns about users’ information on social media platforms and the amount of user data that a company can keep.

Facebook has allowed its users to download their messages, photos, clicked advertisements and a log of all of their activity on the platform since 2010. Instagram does not seem to have allowed this previously.

An Instagram spokesman said: “We are building a new data portability tool. The tool will allow users to download data including their photos, videos and messages.”

TechCrunch has reported that if this new tool is launched before 25th May it will mean Instagram will comply with the new upcoming European privacy law.
