Matrimony Acquires 100% Stake in Wedding Planning Platform
Matrimony.com has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in Boatmen Tech Private Limited and its wedding planning platform ShaadiSaga.
The deal has been approved by the Board of Directors and will be confirmed after standard regulatory authorisation and closing conditions.
Matrimony has expanded into the wedding services industry in recent years, offering a variety of platforms to help couples plan their ceremony. This includes WeddingBazaar and Mandap which provide assistance with finding vendors and venues respectively.
This deal will help Matrimony improve its products and scale up its presence, especially in the north and west regions of India.
Chairman and Managing Director Murugavel Janakiraman said in a statement: “Wedding Services has immense potential to create a big impact with our customers. With this strategic acquisition, we will accelerate our growth through supply enhancement and superior product capabilities.
“We intend to integrate ShaadiSaga’s product, technology and social media assets with our offerings. With this approach, we believe that this deal will significantly strengthen the positioning of Wedding Bazaar.com and Mandap.com in the industry.”
Last year, flagship product BharatMatrimony launched an at-home service to help couples safely host their weddings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Users could host weddings for up to 50 guests, with help from verified caterers, decorators, photographers and more. They were provided with all of the extra safety precautions like sanitisers, masks, gloves and mandatory temperature checks.
