New Google Tool Tests Your Website’s Speed & Tells You How To Improve It
A new tool from Google helps you test the speed of your website for both mobile and desktop.
Called Test My Site, the service lets you enter your URL and gives you a score out of 100 for your site’s Mobile Friendliness, Mobile Speed & Desktop Speed.
After generating the three scores, it also gives you tips on how to improve the scores, and you can also request a detailed report about your site to be sent via email.
Google says people are five times more likely to leave a site if it isn’t mobile-friendly, so created the tool to helps site owners see how they can optimise their site’s speed for mobile and desktop devices.
In a blog post, Google said: “On average, people check their phones more than 150 times a day, and more searches occur on mobile phones than computers. But if a potential customer is on a phone, and a site isn’t easy to use, they’re five times more likely to leave.
“To avoid losing out in these crucial moments, you need a site that loads quickly and is easy to use on mobile screens. The first step is seeing how your site is performing. We can help by scoring your site for mobile-friendliness, mobile speed, and desktop speed.”
Last month, Netflix released their own free internet speed test, Fast.com, an incredibly simple tool that automatically tests the speed of your internet.
