thursday° Makes Redundancies Amidst Strategy Change
thursday°, which hosts offline dating events, have made some of its staff redundant amidst a shift to its strategy.
Among those made redundant is Priyanka Nagpal, the platform’s Head of Events, who also co-hosted thursday’s podcast ‘Thursday: Behind the Screen’. Nagpal was featured in GDI’s Women in Dating Special Report in October 2023.
In a recent statement on LinkedIn, George Rawlings, Co-Founder & CEO of thursday°, acknowledged that “rumours are flying” after a series of redundancies at the company.
However, he clarified that despite ‘intense pressure’, thursday° would not be going under.
“We’re a business, not a family. It just doesn’t make sense to operate at a loss every month. We’re making changes to turn things around because, at the end of the day, this is my baby, and I’ve got to keep it afloat”, he shared.
thursday° events take place at bars across 60 cities around the world. The events look to foster offline connections in a casual environment, offering an alternative to organised speed-dating and endless swiping.
Looking ahead, Rawlings hinted at a shift to the company’s business model, saying “We’ve had to rethink some things. Relying on raising capital for fake success isn’t cutting it anymore. It’s time to focus on turning a profit. It’s not an easy road, but it’s the road we’re taking”.
