Match Group to End Services in Belarus

Dating brands that are part of Match Group will end their services in Belarus on the 15th of February 2024. This comes after Match Group brands stopped operations in Russia in June 2023.

While no official statements have been made, Tinder confirmed the ceasing of services in Belarus in a help guide for users in the country. It shared that users will still be able to chat with their matches on the platform until the 15th of February.

This decision seems to be consistent with the company’s decision to stop operations in Russia, following its involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. While Belarus has not involved to the same extent as Russia, it has provided support and allyship to Russia throughout this conflict, PBS reports

When Match Group ceased operations in Russia, a representative of Friends Fiduciary Corp, a shareholder in the dating company, explained the thinking behind the decision, saying:

“It’s not a good look for a trusted brand to be continuing operations in a nation where the head of state has been indicted by the International Criminal Court”

A number of global brands have already ceased operations in Belarus, including Amazon, FedEx, Airbnb, Bumble, and more.
