The “Tinder for curve lovers” app WooPlus now lets women comment on, review and rate the men they speak to online.
The swipe-based app for “plus-size singles” is now giving women more control by letting them review and comment on the profiles of the men they’re talking to, and even give them a star rating out of five.
The purpose of the features is to allow women to flag the men who acted badly on the app, and to provide a safer space for plus-size women by reducing the worry of fat-shaming and abusive behaviour.
The comments, reviews and ratings left by women are also put into an algorithm that enables the app to make better match suggestions for its female users.
The new features have been introduced after WooPlus found a whopping 71% of 1,000 female users recently surveyed said they had experienced harassment and insulting behaviour on normal dating apps.
And while 29% said they had never experienced this kind of negativity, some did say they had been turned down because of their size.
Speaking about their experiences on other dating apps, one user said: “I’ve been harassed so many times for both my height and weight. I guess I’ve triggered some size-related existential crises.”
The co-founder of WooPlus Michelle Li said: “Although we know that on regular dating apps, many women have experienced unfair treatment, we were still shocked at the final result of this study.
“Our mission at WooPlus is to create many more female-friendly features, so bigger women have user-friendly and practical dating tools, and are treated with respect.
“On WooPlus, women who choose a dating partner will have more power and privileges, which they should have had a long time ago.”
