Tinder Expands ‘Explore’ Page to Help Users Find Compatible Matches
Tinder is making it easier for users to connect with people who share their dating goals. The company announced an update to its Explore page, introducing five new categories: “Non-Monogamy,” “Serious Dater,” “Short-Term Fun,” “Long-Term Partner,” and “New Friends.” These additions aim to help users navigate the dating landscape with greater clarity by grouping profiles based on relationship intentions.
The “Serious Dater” and “Long-Term Partner” categories cater to those seeking commitment, while “Short-Term Fun” is designed for more casual connections. The “New Friends” option suggests Tinder may be looking to compete with Bumble BFF, which focuses on platonic connections. Meanwhile, “Non-Monogamy” reflects the growing acceptance of diverse relationship styles.
Tinder’s Explore page, first introduced in 2021, already offers profile groupings based on shared interests, such as “Binge Watchers” and “Nature Lovers.” It also includes features like “Free Tonight,” which connects users who are available the same day. However, the latest update shifts the focus from hobbies to relationship intentions, addressing a common challenge in online dating—unclear expectations.
Given Tinder’s recent push for “Loud looking” and other incentives for users to be more upfront about their relationship goals, these new additions are clearly a way for users to find matches that are more suited to their wants and needs. The timing of the rollout – just days before Valentine’s Day – is likely no coincidence, as the holiday often sparks a surge in dating app activity.
