Half of U.S. Singles Say Dating Costs Are Not Worth It
The average cost of a date in the United States has reached $189, according to Bank of Montreal’s 2026 Real Financial Progress Index. This represents a 12.5% increase from $168 the previous year. 47% of single Americans say dating is no longer financially worth it.
The burden falls heaviest on younger generations. Millennials now spend an average of $252 per date, a 32% increase from 2025. Gen Z spends $205 on average. Half of Gen Z and 40% of Millennials said dating costs are interfering with their financial goals.
