Mindful Dating: Gen Z’s New Approach to Lasting Connections
As the dating landscape evolves, Gen Z is shifting the focus from rapid matches to a more deliberate and thoughtful approach known as Mindful Dating. Recent data from QuackQuack, India’s prominent dating app, reveals that over 39% of users aged 18 to 25 are choosing to focus on slower and more deliberate dating approaches.
QuackQuack’s Founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, commented that “GenZ’s mindful dating trend is not new, but it has finally taken up speed and gained traction even among their predecessors.”. QuackQuack’s research found that more and more users are scrolling with a purpose – they’re browsing with a careful eye for good matches, not just somebody that they find attractive and want to take a risk on.
33% of QuackQuack users stated that they have begun to spend more time on interesting profiles, and are taking more steps to measure compatibility. 60% of app users have admitted that they’ve stopped scrolling past multiple profiles in a row, and are instead spending more time on each individual profile to genuinely consider if it would be worth trying to match.
Gender-based statistics have also begun to change. 28% of women aged 20-25 prioritize quality over quantity – they prefer selecting matches based on shared values and long-term goals, avoiding the effort to “fix” misaligned partners. 21% of men believe in deep, intentional conversations early on, exploring topics such as political views and personal beliefs to better understand potential partners.
QuackQuack’s data underscores a trend where young daters are prioritizing substantive connections over fleeting interactions, something that has recently been quite a shock to the dating industry. Many platforms have been forced to rapidly adapt to a more careful, cautious dating audience that want to take things slowly instead of matching with every account they see.
