Grindr to Bring PrEP Access Directly Into Its App

Grindr plans to make PrEP accessible directly through its app next year, CEO George Arison said at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York on September 23.

Arison discussed the plans during the “Getting Disruption Right” panel, where he spoke about Grindr’s role in HIV prevention and expanding access to healthcare services.

PrEP, short for pre-exposure prophylaxis, is medication taken by people who do not have HIV to reduce their risk of acquiring the virus. When taken as prescribed, it is highly effective at preventing HIV through sex.

The move builds on Grindr’s growing focus on health. In July, Grindr for Equality committed to connecting 10 million LGBTQ+ people with HIV prevention by 2028. The company has already created in-app pathways to HIV testing, PrEP, doxyPEP and other prevention services. Grindr is also developing a Health Center in the U.S. focused on sexual health, wellness products and health education. The company plans to eventually integrate some Health Center benefits into selected paid subscriptions.
