Happn Leverages AI for ‘Perfect Date’ Feature
Dating app Happn is introducing a new AI-powered feature aimed at easing the transition from chatting online to meeting offline. The tool, called Perfect Date, uses generative AI to help users plan dates that are tailored to mutual interests, locations, and moods, with the goal of reducing the stress that often comes with organizing a first meeting.
The feature offers up to five personalized venue suggestions by analyzing users’ profiles and preferences. According to Happn CEO Karima Ben Abdelmalek, the tool is designed to be “opt-in” and only becomes active when users are ready to plan a meeting. The aim is to support spontaneity, not replace it.
Perfect Date also integrates with Foursquare to enhance the quality of its recommendations. Through this partnership, the feature draws from a wide database of hyper-local points of interest to suggest places that align with users’ shared vibe – be it a quiet café, a trendy bar, or a cultural venue.
Happn emphasizes that its approach is distinct from platforms that prioritize speed and volume. Instead, it aims to foster real-world connections through what it calls “emotional and contextual AI.” The company says it wants technology to support, not control, how people interact.
The feature also functions as a real-time concierge. Once users select an area to meet, the AI offers options based on personality alignment and practical criteria like proximity. It’s designed to empower users, particularly Gen Z and millennials, to plan meaningful encounters without the pressure.
Happn reports strong interest among Indian users, with 62% expressing trust in AI-driven venue suggestions, reflecting a broader shift toward intentional and less stressful dating experiences.
