Hinge Introduces AI-Driven Prompt Feedback to Improve Profiles

Hinge has unveiled a new feature called Prompt Feedback, designed to assist users in crafting better profile responses by offering personalized feedback on their answers. This initiative is the latest in a trend of dating apps leveraging AI to enhance user experiences, following similar innovations like Grindr’s AI “wingman” and Bumble’s AI-generated icebreakers.

Prompt Feedback operates on three feedback tiers: “Great Answer,” encouraging users to keep their response; “Try a Small Change,” suggesting minor tweaks; and “Go a Little Deeper,” which nudges users to add more detail. Importantly, the feature doesn’t generate content or suggest specific language but instead aims to coach users through the editing process.

Hinge’s profile prompts are a central feature of the app, with responses to prompts 47% more likely to lead to a date than likes on photos, according to the platform. However, many users struggle with what to write, with a recent Hinge survey revealing that 63% of its users find it difficult to decide what to include in their profiles.

Logan Ury, Hinge’s director of relationship science, explained the motivation behind the new feature: “We’re all familiar with dating app clichés like ‘pineapple on pizza’ or being ‘overly competitive about… everything.’ While these responses are common, they often fall short in showcasing the individuality and creativity that ignite meaningful conversations.”

The purpose of the system is to provide a personalised kind of coaching to each user, helping them improve their profile based on their own specific writing style and quirks rather than being a generic set of guidelines or a pre-made profile template.
