LinkedIn To End Unscheduled Live Streaming from June

LinkedIn announced on March 29, 2026, that it will discontinue real-time, unscheduled live streaming starting June 22, 2026. Users will now be required to schedule live events in advance, although the platform allows scheduling “just minutes” before going live.

According to LinkedIn’s Live help center, the change aims to make live events “simpler, more discoverable, and more impactful.” While spontaneous broadcasting will no longer be possible, the short-notice scheduling option provides some flexibility for users who want to go live quickly.

The move reflects LinkedIn’s focus on improving audience engagement and event planning. Spontaneous streams often struggle to attract viewers, as building an audience takes time. By requiring advance scheduling, LinkedIn hopes to encourage better preparation, promotion, and turnout. This aligns with the platform’s growing emphasis on events as a key engagement driver. In October 2025, LinkedIn’s Chief Operating Officer Daniel Shapero reported a 24% quarter-over-quarter increase in shared events. Additionally, event ads were shown to drive 31% more viewership on average. These metrics suggest that structured, promoted events perform significantly better than impromptu broadcasts.

In general, the change pushes for more intentional planning but potentially higher-quality experiences and larger audiences. Users can still promote events effectively through LinkedIn’s advertising tools and event pages, and are still able to put the same level of effort into streams if they prefer – but the scheduling tries to make them a more intentional and curated event, rather than an off-the-cuff promotional tool.
