Tinder Thailand Campaign Pushes Back on Performative Dating

Tinder Thailand has launched a new campaign encouraging Gen Z users to present less curated versions of themselves on dating profiles, challenging the pressure to maintain polished, highly aesthetic online personas.

Created with VML Thailand, “The Real Finds The One” is built around the idea that dating profiles have become increasingly similar, with familiar references to travel, fitness, food trends and carefully selected photographs. The campaign encourages users to move away from what it describes as “copy-paste” profiles and instead show characteristics they might otherwise feel inclined to hide.

The campaign’s central message is that users do not necessarily need a large number of matches. Instead, it argues that being more open about their personality, interests and appearance could help them find people who are a better fit. The campaign uses the line “99% left is okay. 1% right is all you need” – in other words, finding a smaller number of meaningful connections rather than appealing broadly to every potential match.

Its creative includes examples such as a man with traditionally childlike hobbies, a woman with a notably loud laugh and someone who is under 165cm tall. Rather than treating these characteristics as drawbacks, the campaign presents them as potential points of connection with the right person.

VML Thailand Group Creative Director Natkanate Ruengrujmethakul said the campaign was developed in response to what the agency viewed as increasingly performative dating profiles, arguing that presenting an idealised persona can create expectations that do not carry into real interactions
