MyTruDate Launches with Mandatory Safety Screening for Users

MyTruDate has launched in the U.S., introducing a security-focused approach to online dating by requiring every user to undergo a confidential safety screening before gaining access. Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the Florida-based app claims to be the only platform in the U.S. mandating ID verification and criminal background checks for all members. The process involves a live selfie matched against a U.S. government-issued ID (no Social Security number required), plus a customized criminal background check screening for over 200 violent and fraud-related convictions.

Those who fail are denied entry, with no re-admission under alternate identities, according to the developers. Personal data is deleted post-screening to protect privacy. Chief Trust and Safety Officer Dave Auman explained the motivation: “We created MyTruDate to solve real problems in online dating: safety, transparency, and wasted time.”

By blocking fake profiles, catfishes, bots, and individuals with serious criminal histories (including sex offenders), the app aims to create a “premium and inclusive” community for serious singles seeking meaningful connections. MyTruDate ditches traditional swipe mechanics in favor of MyTruSearch, a precision tool letting users set filters and view all matching profiles instantly. This removes both the user-by-user scrolling aspect of conventional apps and the need for a regular algorithm.

The platform’s main focus – besides security – is letting members act as their own matchmakers rather than relying on the platform to serve them matches. Complementing this is MyTruCheck, an in-app service for running comprehensive background checks on any U.S. individual (not just app users) at a lower cost than external services – allowing users to double-check matches as they please without needing to leave the platform.
