Physical Appearance Still a Pivotal Factor for Daters
New research by dating app, QuackQuack, has revealed that 33% of daters in India believe physical appearance still plays a crucial part in both online and offline dating.
QuackQuack’s Founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, commented: “We are an app with over 32 million users. We know how much appearance matters in the dating world. There is no denying that. But the aim is always to strike a healthy balance between looks and other more important traits that should factor in while finding a match; for instance, we constantly urge our users to also look into compatibility, personality, shared goals, values, and more if they want to find a relationship that goes beyond the surface level.”
A study of 9000 people between the ages of 20 and 45 saw participants asked a series of questions about their online dating preferences, with the results reflecting the prioritising of physical appearance over every other factor.
37% of daters between 18 and 30 surveyed say physical appearance is everything when it comes to first impressions. Most respondents stated this was especially important in online dating, when visual appeal forms the basis of first impressions. Data showed the particular trend more pronounced among the younger age group than those who were older.
More than 24% of daters said that interacting with physically attractive matches made them feel more confident, with users making more effort to make initial connections with those they found immediately physically attractive.
The research by QuackQuack found that 3 out of 5 women over the age of 30 agreed cultural expectations play a part in the preference for a physically attractive partner, believing that there is a push towards choosing an attractive partner over a “talented” match.
It does appear that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, with 29% of daters agreeing that it was subjective.
