Schmooze Launches Voice AI Matchmaker ‘Riya’
Schmooze, a Bengaluru-based Gen Z-focused dating app, has introduced ‘Riya’, an AI-powered voice matchmaker designed to move beyond traditional swipe-based discovery. Schmooze has built its own voice AI stack and a large language model fine-tuned specifically on dating-related data. This approach is intended to improve accuracy while maintaining greater control over user privacy and reducing costs.
Riya engages users in natural voice conversations to understand their personality, values, lifestyle, and relationship goals before recommending matches. Unlike standard filters or photo-driven swiping, the AI aims to capture deeper compatibility signals through interactive dialogue. According to cofounder Vidya Madhavan, retention rates among users who engage with the AI matchmaker are twice as high as the average.
