Tinder Swindler Wants to Launch Dating App to Protect Women

Simon Leviev (born Shimon Hayut), better known as the “Tinder Swindler,” is planning a return to online dating. This time, he wants to run a dating app. Safe Love is being pitched as a dating platform designed to protect women from romance fraud.

Leviev became notorious after Netflix’s The Tinder Swindler documented claims from women who said he met them on Tinder, gained their trust and persuaded them to give him large sums of money. Leviev denies those allegations. He was separately convicted in Israel in 2019 of fraud, theft and forgery. Leviev argues that his experience gives him an understanding of manipulation and how scammers operate.

A dating app promising to protect women from fraud is an unusual next move for the Tinder Swindler. The Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA) has now stepped in, writing to Apple and Google over the proposed app. It wants both companies to consider the risks of distributing a dating service founded, operated or fronted by Leviev. Safe Love has not yet launched. ODDA is asking Apple and Google to examine the app closely before deciding whether to give it access to their stores.
