Smitten Introduces ‘Wavy,’ an in-Chat Game to Keep Conversations Flowing

Icelandic dating app Smitten has launched a new in-app game called Wavy, designed to help users keep conversations engaging and prevent chats from fading out too soon. The app, which has gained popularity in Iceland and across the Nordic region, is known for incorporating interactive features that make online dating more dynamic.

Wavy allows users to rate various topics – such as food, pets, or activities – on a sliding scale. Matches can then guess each other’s ratings, adding an element of playfulness and interaction to their conversations. The goal is to create a fun way for users to learn more about one another and keep their discussions active.

“The conversations that happen on Smitten are unique, thanks to our games, which make Smitten the most fun dating app. Our games have helped countless couples take their first steps in a relationship by making it easier to start a conversation,” says Ásgeir Vísir, co-founder and Head of Product Development at Smitten.

According to Vísir, the inspiration for Wavy came from observing how some conversations on the platform start strong but lose momentum over time. “We recently realized that users often struggle to keep their conversations going after a strong start. Chats sometimes fade out for no real reason, even when both people might have butterflies for each other. Wavy is the solution to this problem,” he explains.

The launch of Wavy marks Smitten’s first new game in some time, but more are expected in the coming months. “Deep down, we all want to play and have fun. Games bring us closer together and help eliminate stress and anxiety,” Vísir adds, hinting at future updates aimed at further enhancing the user experience.
