Spring Break Sees UK Singles Seeking Love in Florida

A growing number of young Britons are travelling to Florida during spring break, deciding to intentionally travel abroad with the goal of having romantic or casual encounters.

Search data analysed by Sister Wives, a polyamorous dating app, shows a sharp rise in UK interest in American spring break. Searches for “Spring Break 2026 Miami” increased by 2,050% over the past 12 months, while “When is spring break in USA 2026?” rose by 5,000%. Flights to Florida also saw peak search volume between late December and early January, roughly 10–11 weeks before the event, aligning with Gen Z’s average international flight booking window.

Several British influencers have documented their trips on TikTok, openly stating they timed their holidays to coincide with spring break in order to meet and party with Americans. Fort Lauderdale has gained popularity after Miami’s stricter enforcement pushed some festivities northward.

Dating expert Robyn Alesich from Sister Wives explained the psychological drivers behind the trend. She noted that being away from familiar social circles and having a clear end date to the trip creates a sense of freedom. People tend to take more risks, approach strangers more easily, and be more open about their intentions. The group dynamic of “flocking” also reduces anxiety, providing a safety net that encourages bolder behaviour.

Alesich added that the “accent advantage” may give British travellers an edge in attracting attention. However, she pointed out that holiday romances formed during flocking rarely turn into long-term relationships, which aligns with a broader Gen Z tendency to treat dating more as an experience than a search for a permanent partner.
