Texas Leads U.S. Growth in Polyamory, 1 in 3 Interested In Trying

With National Polyamory Day approaching on November 23, new user data from polyamory-focused dating platform Sister Wives points to a sharp rise in interest in non-monogamous relationships across the United States. The company analyzed activity from more than 15,000 users and found that Texas currently accounts for the largest share of sign-ups, positioning the state at the top of its ranking of places most engaged in poly-relationship exploration.

According to the platform, Texas represents over 10% of its total U.S. user base. The state also records high levels of curiosity around the topic more broadly, with more than 18,000 average monthly Google searches for “polyamory.” The trend lines mirror earlier nationwide polling – YouGov reported this year that nearly three in ten Americans characterized their ideal relationship as non-monogamous – suggesting that the appetite for alternative relationship models continues to expand.

California ranks second in Sister Wives’ state-by-state analysis, accounting for 7.43% of users. The state has taken notable legislative steps toward recognizing polyamorous families in recent years, a shift that appears to be reflected in both search interest and local community activity. Florida follows closely behind at 7.38%, driven by concentrated engagement in cities such as Tampa and Orlando, where nightlife-driven social environments often correlate with more flexible dating norms.

Georgia (5.61%) and New York (4.15%) round out the top five. Atlanta in particular has seen heightened visibility around polyamory; local surveys cited by the platform note that “28% of daters in the city said they would consider non-traditional dating.” New York’s diverse social landscape and overlapping LGBTQ+ and kink communities are also highlighted as contributing factors in its ranking.

Beyond usage patterns, Sister Wives reports significant spikes in search behavior, including a 5,000% increase over the past month in queries related to poly-relationships. The surge aligns with broader cultural shifts, where terms like “is polyamory right for me?” consistently appear in search trends.
