TikTok Launches Campus Hub Feature for U.S. College Students
TikTok has introduced an expanded new Campus Hub feature aimed at verified college students in the United States. The feature provides dedicated spaces for students at more than 6,000 universities to connect with their campus community through group chats and personalized content feeds.
Students can verify their status using TikTok’s existing Campus Verification system, powered by the third-party service Unidays. Once verified, users can link their university to their TikTok profile and gain access to a dedicated campus section within the app.The Campus Hub includes two main components:
- College Groups: Verified students can create or join group chats with up to 300 other classmates.
- College Feed: A personalized feed that surfaces content created by other verified students from the same university, along with relevant campus-related videos and trends.
According to TikTok, the new feature is designed to help students stay informed about local events, opportunities, and campus trends while fostering community engagement directly within the app.
The introduction of Campus Hub reflects TikTok’s continued effort to deepen its appeal among younger users, particularly college students. However, the feature also carries potential risks. Previous attempts by other platforms, such as Meta’s Facebook Campus and Yik Yak, faced significant problems with non-students infiltrating student-only spaces, leading to safety concerns and, in Meta’s case, the eventual shutdown of the feature.
